5 MISTAKES THAT STUDENTS OFTEN MAKE WHEN STUDYING ABROAD

The reason why AVB International made this sharing article is because during the time the company did study abroad and career guidance in accompanying children and parents in studying abroad. Some of you after going to Taiwan or some other countries, have feedback about what you encountered? and also hope you have a more stable mentality.

•The scholarship program is very simple but you don’t know.

Currently, there are many scholarship programs to study abroad in Taiwan, Japan, Germany, Korea, that is, there are programs that are taught entirely in English and do not require tuition fees, and you can also work part-time. The standards are very simple. Just need to have good academic performance and good English communication skills, you have the opportunity to receive a scholarship of up to 100% of tuition fees. The living expenses are similar to those in Vietnam. Therefore, many scholarship programs are much cheaper than in Vietnam but you do not know.

• Studying abroad because of your parents’ wishes.

Many of you study abroad just because of your parents’ wishes. Therefore, you think that it doesn’t matter what major you study, or which country you study in. Regarding finances: usually, when you go to study abroad, your parents have already prepared a financial amount for you. According to your thinking, you only go to study and then return home after finishing your studies. If your goals are not clear, what do you need to do when studying abroad to make the next 4 years, 2 years or 10 years of your life better?

Currently, there are students who participate in scholarships who are very proactive, and often contact their families, and their employers work part-time, so their parents do not need to support them anymore. But there are also many students who depend on their parents, do not want to work part-time and spend a lot of money, so their parents at home will have a lot of pressure when sending their children to study abroad, and many students have to return home halfway because they do not have enough finances to support them.

• Not proactive in connecting

A student who returned from studying abroad was asked “What is different about studying abroad?” and he answered that studying abroad is no different from studying in Vietnam. Why is that? Because every day you go to class, then go back to the dormitory, then go to the cafeteria to eat, then go back to your room. That means that during the 2 years you studied in Taiwan, you did not participate in school activities, work part-time, etc., and you also rarely learned about Taiwanese culture and tourism. During summer vacations or Tet holidays, you all returned to Vietnam. Therefore, after 2 years of studying abroad, you did not have any experience, your foreign language skills were only in English, and you did not attend Chinese classes. Therefore, after returning home, you felt that after 2 years of studying in Taiwan, there was no difference compared to Vietnam.

• Not focusing on studying time

Many of you think that studying abroad is for the purpose of making money, so you spend too much time making money, leading to you not having time to study, your academic results decline, you cannot keep your scholarship, so it becomes a vicious cycle in balancing between studying and working. Normally, AVB International advises you to work from the second semester. Because when you go to a new country, it takes time to learn and adapt to the culture and language, you should communicate and learn first. To avoid the situation where you are too absorbed in working and forget the main purpose of studying, which leads to a lot of pressure such as not being able to keep the scholarship. As you know, whether you study abroad or study in the country, it is a process for you to improve and develop yourself better.

• Not learning carefully about the culture, customs, and environment when studying abroad

When planning to study abroad but you haven’t learned carefully about the culture and lifestyle of the place you are going to, at first you will feel culture shock and won’t understand what they say. When studying abroad, you should clearly understand that even if your foreign language score is very high, it is normal for you not to understand what they say. At least it will take you about 2-3 months to understand what they say and what you say for them to understand.

Vietnamese people are very close and casual when borrowing things from others. But with foreigners, wherever they leave their things, you have to leave them there, because when you move, they will feel very confused, because their individuality is very high. So if you have not learned about their habits, culture, and lifestyle, when you come, you will encounter many surprises.
